On the day that ‘your reporter’ encountered her on Saturday 17/2015, she was invited by one of the local shops at Hammanskraal Shopping Centre to entertain Saturday shoppers.
This is what she does during weekends with her fellow musicians, Frans “Born Again” and Lucas Nkuna. “We team up to promote our music and sell our CDs. They met at Clear Form Music Production Studios owned by DJ Khotso.
‘Your reporter’ was impressed to learn that the CDs they brought that morning, were all sold out.
Makie Mpepele from New Eesterus is originally from Shoshanguve. Her music career was inspired by gospel singer, Matlakala, of the Masole ‘A Tumelo’ fame while in grade two at Rivoningho primary school.
At that stage she would imitate Matlakala’s songs and later when she was 18 she joined a church choir. He singing at church made her realise her talent and love for music
In 2009 when she was 18, she started singing at a church choir and that’s when she discovered her love for music.
She then decided to go an extra mile, a friend and now her backing vocalist, Tebogo Malatlela, introduced her to Clear Form Music Production and released an album ‘Kenngwana Ntate’.
She then started marketing herself by singing at the malls, community halls and for small events until she met DJ Khosto who helped her record her second album, ‘Bakgalemele’, in 2013. She continued to work with DJ Khotso in his studio and released her 3rd album, ‘Reyaleboga’ in 2014. To date, Maki has not stopped marketing her music and working to reach her goals.
