A 64 year old Woman was ran over and killed by a speeding silver BMW on Saturday near Temba City Shell Petrol Station.
Eyewitnesses said that the silver BMW was driving at high speed and ran over the Woman who was crossing the road on her way home from Temba City Complex.
It is alleged that the driver of the car did not realise that he had ran over someone and was alerted by the passenger he was travelling with about the accident.
The eye witness, Mr Tebogo Seoketsa, said the BMW stopped 100 meters away from the scene before reversing to check on the Woman.
Police spokesperson, Constable Herman Moremi said it is alleged that the driver of the BMW was under the influence of alcohol.
“An off duty Emergency Medical Services lady arrived minutes after the accident and tried to stabilise the woman but the elderly woman succumbed to her injuries and died on the scene,” Said Constable Moremi.
Constable Moremi said the driver was arrested on the scene and will be facing charges of culpable homicide, possible drunk and driving, reckless and negligent driving.
The elderly woman’s name was not revealed as her next of kin had not been informed.
