Driven by the passion to give back to the community we grew up in, a number of committed individuals from Temba and surrounding areas established a Non-Profit Organization aptly named BoMkhaya ba ko Temba (BoMkhaya) which wass registered with the Department of Social Development in November 2014 – Registration Number:45-545.

As depicted in the name, this organization was established by members of the Temba community and surrounding areas with the sole purpose of promoting Social Cohesion through a number of programmes. BoMkhaya, as it is commonly known is anchored on the following three pillars:

  • Education: We aim to promote a culture of learning and teaching and promote the importance of education especially amongst the youth.
  • Health: To promote healthy living amongst the community members.
  • Socio-economic development: Address social ills such as drug abuse, Satanism, teenage pregnancy.

Immediately upon registration, BoMkhaya launched one of their key education projects; a pledge to “Restore the Dignity of the Girl Children” which aims to supply teenage girls in the local schools with sanitary pads on  a monthly basis to ensure that these young ladies do not miss school during their menstrual periods. On the 29th of April 2015, BoMkhaya visited Hammanskraal Secondary School to present the school with 310 packets of sanitary pads which were donated to the Organization. The school delegation comprising of the Principal of the school, Mr Pule Monkoe, Ms T. Rankhumise who is in charge of projects, Ms ZZ Mndebele, the HOD for English and three (3) girl learners received the donation.

Over 150 learners will benefit from the donation for a period of two months. We are looking forward to assist the school in future not only with sanitary pads but with leadership and vocational skills. Thus, we humbly appeal for donations either in the form of cash or sanitary pads from the rest of the community members to support this initiative and many others which will be announced in due course. We also request the schools’ support in ensuring that these worthy donations are supplied to the “needy learners” who cannot afford to buy sanitary pads on a monthly basis. Members of the communities can follow BoMkhaya on Facebook under Mr Tony Nyatlo’s friend base. They can also write to our Communications Manager on the following email: eldertony@webmail.co.za
