Justice served to raise the plight of women and children
The Cluster Commander of Brits, Major General Modisagaarekwe Mosimanegape welcomed the sentencing to 18 years imprisonment of Bedwang murder accused, Mmolawa Kgwebane(35), by Moretele Magistrates’ court on Thursday, 14 March 2019.
The sentencing stems from an incident which took place in the early hours of Friday, 13 December 2013, at Pheledi section, Lebotlwane. Kgwebane had an argument with his wife, Kedibone Setlhare (32), who he accused of cheating on him. The accused then stabbed her 22 times throughout the body with a table knife.
He then left the house, locked the deceased inside the house and phoned his brother regarding what transpired. His brother, who was at work during that time, phoned the neighbour of Kgwebane to verify the incident.
The neighbour could not gain access into the house as it was locked and decided to phone the parents of the deceased. They rushed to the house and found their daughter lying on the bed with her face down. Emergency Services were called and they certified Kedibone dead on the scene.
Later during the same day, the suspect was accosted by the police, while hiding in the bush between Lebotlwane and Slaagboom.
Kgwebane was linked to the murder through testimonies provided by the witnesses.
Maj General Mosimanegape emphasized that women and children are more often subjected to fatal violent criminal activities, as such it is mandatory for the police to protect them against heartless perpetrators.
