Ga-Motla Village to benefit from feeding programme for the poor

The Department of Social Development has targeted to reduce hunger and provide food security to 1500 poor families in its newly launched nutrition programme.

  The programme will result in the establishment of community nutrition and development centres in remote villages, townships and small towns across the ountry. Ga-Motla  in Moretele is one of the vilages identified to benefit from this programme.   Social development MEC Fenny Gaolaolwe led the site visits to some of the benefiiary areas reently and met with residents in the villages.   The feeding programme provides cooked nutritious meals to the individuals and households that are unable to provide food for their families.   The programme to feed the hungry is not only a once off thing, but part of governmental policy to uplift the welfare of the less fortunate. The MEC said centres that are assisted on a monthy baisis over a period of eight months. This programme will also be a milestone towards achieving the millennium development goal of halving poverty and hunger by 2015. Many of the beneficiaries do not work and depend largely on cooked meals froom the centre.
