Wonderboom Airport celebrates its 75th year in aviation with an air show on 11 June.
The air displays promise to be breathtaking, and static displays of rarely seen aircraft guarantee a spectacular day for spectators and aviation enthusiasts. IIn a statement, the the Wonderboom National Airport said, the big thrill of the day will be the landing of an aircraft on a vehicle. The air displays will be performed by seasoned pilots, and the popular Brian Emmenis and his team will entertain the crowds with their running commentaries on the displays.
Visitors will be taken on helicopter flips and invited to sit in the cockpits of some of the aircraft on display. The fly-out of the approximately 300 visiting aircraft at the end of the day will certainly be a highlight, as will be the fireworks display to end off the show.
The gates open at 07:00 and the show is on from 10:00 to 17:00. However, the day’s festivities do not end there because rugby will be shown on big screens afterwards.
Admission is R40 and children under 12 pay R20. Airshow tickets can be purchased from the Airport Management offices 09h00 to 15h00 from Tuesday, 7th June 2011, until Friday, 10th June 2011. Please leave your pets at home.
The programme features, for instance, Yack 52s; Albatrosses; L39s; Goodyear Eagle Pitt Specials; a truck-top landing; Flying Lions; Harvards; a Slick 360; the Mazda aerobatics team; parachuting; Glen Dell in an Xtra 300 and T28 Trojan, as well as commercial aircraft showing their manoeuvrability.
