Ms Angela Ndhlovu (18), from Makgetse High School in Hammanskraal, has been awarded a bursary by the Gauteng City-Region Academy for achieving six distinctions in her matric results.
The bursary is for Ms Ndhlovu to pursue her studies at the University of Cape Town to study Business Science In Actuarial Sciences.
This is after her application was unsuccessful with NSFAS as one of the missing middle families where the breadwinner earns above the NSAFAS threshold but also does not afford university fees because the salary of the breadwinner also supports the rest of the family members.
Angela Ndhlovu born and bred in Marokolong, Hammanskraal, lives with her mom who is a single parent, and a nurse who supports her grandmother and three of Anglea’s siblings.
“I know my background doesn’t define me and I am very happy to be recognized through the Provincial award, I am very happy because my hard work is paying off, “ she said.
In July 2019 Ms Ndhlovu was one of the Hammanskraal Tennis Club players who received gold medals after achieving the first position in the tennis tournament held in Durban.

Hammanskraal Tennis Team manager, Mr Simon Tlhatlha, said he is proud of Ms NMs Ndhlovu’s excellent performance both in academics and in sports.
“She is a very reserved meticulous person and I am proud of her for her continued success and for making the best out of her situations.
“She has brought pride to the people of Hammanskraal as a celebrated tennis player who assisted the Hammanskraal Tennis Club to achieve its first Provincial tennis colors in 2019 and now through her academic achievements by receiving a provincial award for her six distinctions in matric.
“I hope the children of Hammanskraal will look up to her as a role model,” Mr Tlhatlha said.
