Hammanskraal born, performer and dancer, Dr Malinga, went back to Temba in the community he grew up in to give over a thousand children food and presents.
Many activities of goodwill occur annually around the country and internationally on Mandela Day, 18 July, to remember the sacrifices made by Nelson Mandela for the country by giving 67 minutes of our time to charity. Dr Malinga, real name Doctor Goodwill Malinga, is known for his extravagant dance moves, colourful attires and a never ceasing energy. Speaking to Moretele Times, he said he strongly believes in giving back. “I don’t only give back on Mandela Day. I do it throughout the year”. Dr Malinga who is an ambassador for Tshwane and founder of Dr Malinga Foundation is also a motivational speaker. “I go to different high schools and primary schools to talk to children about the disadvantages of smoking Nyaope and the danger of contracting HIV and AIDS. This is because I believe prevention is better than cure. I tell them how these things can destroy their lives,” he says. He also added how the drug is killing our future presidents, future CEO’s, doctors and lawyers. The children of Temba enjoyed the day and appreciated the goodwill expressed by Dr Malinga by choosing to spend the day with them. They were grateful for the gifts. Dr Malinga left them including the smiles he put on their faces with his moves.
