The City of Tshwane on 18 August 2015 launched the Wi-Fi Voice; Drive-In and Wi-Fi Chat services to enable every citizen to be digitally included in the free Wi-Fi services.
The network is available at schools, tertiary centres, libraries, health facilities, customer and municipal centres, tourism and heritage venues, on buses, at stations, and curb stops on the Areyeng Trunk Route.
The Wi-Fi Voice is a mobile application that allows users to call each other and the City’s Customer Care line at no cost when connected to the Tshwane Free Wi-Fi service. The Wi-Fi Chat allows the City to push messages to users and receive real-time comments and feedback. It also serves as a new service delivery mechanism for users to log queries and complaints to the City thus increasing the number of ways to engage both ways. The Wi-Fi Drive-In is a video-on-demand service enabled at specific Tshwane free Wi-Fi locations that allow users to watch a selection of the latest Hollywood blockbusters on their personal devices over weekends. This follows on the launch of the Wi-Fi TV by the City in 2014.
