Sunday 16 2015 marked history for travellers of Tshwane and its surrounding areas as the inaugural Airlink flight SA8673 from Wonderboom National Airport took off to Cape Town.

Flights to Cape Town straight from Wonderboom, will benefit not only residents of Tshwane, but also travellers from Limpopo and Northwest Province.
Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa was joined by Gauteng Premier, Mr David Makhura, at the launch of the inaugural flight. The Mayor said the South African Airways (SAA) and its feeder partner airline Airlink made the historic inaugural flight possible through a joint commercial venture that will offer scheduled air services at Wonderboom Airport.IMG 2783
Director Media Relations at City of Tshwane, Mr Selby Bokaba, said this initiative would offer air travellers convenience, shorter travel times, lesser traffic, especially during peak hour times, quicker aircraft boarding and disembarking.
Airlink CEO, Mr Rodger Foster, said all businesses, industries and communities located in and around Tshwane will benefit from the new services. In particular, manufacturing sectors such as in the case of the automotive industry located within the catchment and various diplomatic missions and NGO’s located in the area, where there is a strong nexus with their counterparts on Cape Town will stand to benefit from air services at Wonderboom.
