Temba — A 38-year-old man, Winners Boitshepo Makgoba, has been sentenced to two life terms by the Temba Magistrate’s Court after being found guilty of raping two young girls in 2017.
According to Sergeant Herman Moremi of Temba Police Corporate Communications, the incident happened on 27 April 2017 in the Temba and Hammanskraal areas. The two victims, who were aged 13 and 14 at the time, reportedly met Makgoba near Jubilee Mall at about 16:30.
It is alleged that Makgoba gave the girls juice to drink. Shortly afterwards, they became dizzy. He then took them to a lodge in Leboneng, where he allegedly gave them alcohol and rented a room for R150. He raped one of the girls in the room.
Makgoba then took the second victim to the Kanana bushes, where he raped her before leaving both girls there.
The victims later reported the ordeal to their sister, who opened a rape case at the Hammanskraal SAPS. The docket was assigned to Detective Sergeant Mapyane from the Temba Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, who collected evidence from the crime scenes and ensured the case was properly investigated.
On 1 May 2017, at about 09:00, police traced Makgoba to his home in Kekana Gardens, Hammanskraal, where he was arrested and detained.
During the trial, Makgoba was linked to both rape incidents. He appeared in the Temba Magistrate’s Court on 26 August 2026, where he was convicted on two counts of rape and sentenced to life imprisonment on each count. The second life sentence will run concurrently with the first.
The court also ordered that Makgoba’s name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders. He was declared unsuitable to work with children and unfit to possess a firearm.
Temba Station Commander Brigadier Johannes Tau welcomed the conviction and commended the investigating officer for dedication and hard work in ensuring that the perpetrator was brought to justice.
