Girl found lost reunited with her family

A Hammanskraal girl was found lost in Eesterust near Mamelodi on 1 November 2020. The girl who was initially suspected to be a victim of human trafficking was ultimately reunited with her family after police investigations.

The police were alerted of the girl by an anonymous caller who reported her after finding her on the road and seemed to be lost or not aware of where she was.

The police tried to interview her and when she could not answer their questions they thought that she could have been drugged and was still traumatized.

The police contacted a new student resident, Robbin Villa, however, the residence manager, Mr Thulani Mathebula, confirmed that she is not one of the students from her residence.

The police then took the girl to the hospital where it was confirmed that the girl is mentally challenging, and the hospital was able to establish that she is from Hammanskraal.

Constable Mbagata of Eesterust police station said it is still not clear how the girl got to Eesterust and the suspicion is that she could have been abused and dropped in Eesterust.

The girl has since been reunited with her family and the family too did not know how she ended up in Eesterust.

The police urge parents to look after their children, particularly those mentally challenged because it is not every day that a missing person can be recovered.
