Carousel murder accused sentenced to 20 years imprisonment

A 36-year-old man was sentenced to twenty years in prison for murder by Moretele magistrate court on 19 May 2021. The crime occurred on 09 October 2017 at around 16:45 at Carousel View block A.

Sergeant Herman Moremi of Corporate Communications SAPS Temba said the suspect, Mr Sammuel Matsobane Monakedi, stabbed his wife, Ms Thando Mathunzi, several times on the upper body and she was satisfied dead on the scene inside the house.

“According to the witness, they heard the woman screaming asking for help inside the house, and members of the community forced to break the burglary door to gain entry to assist the victim.

“When the police arrived at the scene, they found the woman lying in a pool of blood with multiple stabbed wounds, and the suspect was arrested on the scene,” he said.

The station commander of Temba SAPS, Brigadier Martha Mokobori, welcomed the conviction and applauded the investigating officer who went all out to gather all evidence against the suspect and to make sure the suspect is convicted.

“We are dealing with different cases of gender-based violence and we will make sure that we put perpetrators behind bars,” she said.
