MMC for Social and Community Development Services, Cllr Thabisile Vilakazi and Mayor Randall Williams, officially opened an outdoor gym facility in Hammanskraal today.
This comes as outdoor gyms have become a growing trend in South Africa as they offer numerous health benefits and encourage an active lifestyle. It is the fourth of its kind to be installed in the city.
Mr Williams said the development of outdoor gyms came after the City took up the challenge in 2019 from the National Department of Sport, Recreation Arts and Culture to follow on the National Project to install Outdoor Gyms across the Country.
“We saw a great opportunity in the municipality and immediately began the work within our department to map out the best locations where we could install these facilities,” he said.
“As a City, we consider investment into exercising facilities to be a crucial step towards encouraging healthier living in our communities promoting physical activities out in our natural environment,” added Mr Williams.
