The MMC for Human Settlements, Cllr Mpho Mehlape-Zimu, and the Executive Mayor, Cllr Randall Williams, embarked on a door-to-door campaign to hand over title deeds to beneficiaries in Refentse formerly known as Stinkwater today.
The campaign was launched last month with the view of accelerating the issuing of title deeds, primarily to the elderly and people with disabilities who find it difficult to go to municipal offices to collect their title deeds.
Cllr Williams said The City previously struggled to locate the beneficiaries as the area is an old settlement. Nevertheless, the beneficiaries expressed gratitude as many had lost hope waiting for title deeds for years.
” The handover of title deeds is always a moving experience as beneficiaries were quite emotional. There are residents we assisted who had been waiting for over 20 years to receive their title deeds and in some cases had lost all hope,” he said.
“The distribution of title deeds will always remain a core priority to ensure that the property rights of residents is protected.
“I strongly believe that the distribution of title deeds is an important program to empower residents and assert their property rights” added Cllr Williams.
