A 34-year-old man was sentenced to three years imprisonment by Moretele magistrate court on 18 October 2022 after being found guilty on four counts of house breaking and theft.
Sergeant Herman Moremi of Corporate Communications SAPS Temba said Elias Molekwa was arrested on 02 September 2018 after committing housebreaking and theft at Unit D in Temba on 31 August 2018 during the day when the owner of the house was still at work.
A 54-year-old teacher came back from work and found the door forcefully opened and her property stolen which included a laptop, two pairs of sneakers, a belt and a bag. She asked the neighbours who identified the well-known suspect and she went out to search for Molekwa who was found and the property was also recovered. They took him to the police station with the stolen properties and registered a case.
The investigating officer Sergeant Malesela Kganyago managed to link the suspect with three other cases that were committed on 06 May 2021 in Majaneng village where he stole cash, tv and speakers, on 22 May 2018 at Lephengville where he stole a welding machine and on 16 May 2018 at Unit 5. He was sentenced on 18 October 2022 to three years imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The station commander Brigadier Johannes Tau said residential burglary cases are a nightmare in our area and the police will keep doing their part and justice must also do its part in favour of the community.
He applauded the investigating officer for his hard work and dedication to his duties. ” This shows that the police have done their part to link the suspect with previous cases and put the evidence before the court, and we will never rest until we convict other suspects,” said Brigadier Tau.
