Sekampaneng Primary School has unveiled a newly renovated kitchen, thanks to a R100,000 investment stemming from its participation in the Food Handlers Training Programme sponsored by Knorrox Brand.
On Thursday, Knorrox, in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education (DBE), officially launched the revamped kitchen, transforming the simple act of feeding students into a vital initiative promoting health and dignity.
Ms Thobeka Goba, Marketing Manager of Knorrox, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s involvement in the National School Nutrition Programme, which trains Food Handlers to prepare meals for students. “The campaign, titled ‘We Give a Bull,’ aims to nourish young minds and provide nutrition for children attending school daily,” Ms Goba stated.

As part of the programme, Food Handlers received comprehensive nutrition and culinary training. “Today, we are proud to hand over a fully equipped industrial kitchen after Sekampaneng Primary emerged as the top school among thirty participants. The winnings funded a complete makeover, including new shelves, painted walls, a gas stove, countertops, and a brand-new fridge,” Ms Goba added.
DBE Chief Director Mr Stanley Ndlovu highlighted the long-standing partnership with Unilever, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the brand played an important role in ensuring the safety and hygiene of learners. “We celebrate this partnership, recognising that when you nourish a child, you nourish the future. The government has invested significantly in the school nutrition programme, providing both lunch and breakfast,” Mr Ndlovu noted, stressing the importance of nutritious meals for students from impoverished backgrounds.
Mr Ndlovu emphasised that this collaboration with Unilever represents more than just food; it embodies dignity, resilience, and opportunity. “It is also about the dignity of Food Handlers. A well-equipped kitchen inspires them to come to school with pride and enthusiasm to prepare meals,” he said.

School Principal Ms Duduzile Nkuna voiced her excitement, expressing pride in her team’s efforts. “I am grateful to Knorrox for transforming our kitchen and changing our lives,” she said.
Food Handler Ms Nandi Nkosi shared her experience, stating that the team feels empowered by the positive feedback from learners. “We are inspired to continue experimenting and creating wholesome, delicious meals using Knorrox products, both at school and at home,” she said.
The kitchen renovation not only enhances the school’s facilities but also instils a sense of pride and motivation among the food handlers, ultimately benefiting the students they serve.
