The Hammanskraal Tennis Club achieved success at the recent Inter-Provincials tournament held in Bloemfontein this past weekend, showcasing talent from both its primary and high school divisions.

In a particularly impressive feat, three high school athletes—Koketso Lephotho, Onkagile Sekanka, and Mogomotsi Sekgobela—qualify for the South African team. They are set to represent the nation in the UK this June, marking a significant milestone in their athletic careers.

Club members and supporters have expressed pride in these achievements, recognising the dedication and hard work displayed by the student-athletes. “Today, the fruits of their labour are starting to show,” stated Mpho Makhoba, from the club, highlighting the commitment of both players and coaching staff.

The success did not end there. The Under-19 team garnered a bronze medal, highlighting the strength and resilience of its members. Meanwhile, the Under-15 team excelled, securing gold medals and achieving top honours in the tournament.

In a further commendable effort, primary school participants Onalenna Noko and Oratile Chauke also made the South African team, increasing the representation from Hammanskraal to five athletes. Both players contributed significantly to the club’s growth and success, earning bronze medals.

This achievement not only reflects individual talent but also the supportive environment within the Hammanskraal Tennis Club, where coaches, parents, and community members play an integral role in nurturing young athletes. The club’s leadership has expressed gratitude to all involved, emphasising the importance of collaboration in achieving these goals.

Ms Makhoba said as the Hammanskraal Tennis Club celebrates these accomplishments, the focus remains on continued development and support for its aspiring players.

“The future looks promising for these young athletes as they strive for excellence both on and off the court,” she said.
