E-life certification for self-service is back. No need for South Africans to stand in lines or queues to be verified.

On the 10th April, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) released a statement that the self-service verification system is back in use after facing challenges. SASSA also apologised to beneficiaries and urged them to use this service. The service aims to make things easier for communities and SASSA beneficiaries, saving them time and money.

This platform is available online via the SASSA portal. For beneficiaries to verify themselves, they need an ID number and a cellphone number registered to their SASSA application. Beneficiaries are urged to use this if they receive a message from SASSA instructing them to verify themselves. People should also note that ignoring the message might result in them not receiving their grant, as SASSA will treat them as deceased or delay their grant.

A 29-year-old Mabopane resident who did not want to be named said she is happy that the system is back because standing in queues is not easy, but she is mostly happy for elderly people.

With E-Life certification, beneficiaries can verify their status without visiting a SASSA office. It also reduces queues, and it is safe for verification.

SASSA said it is dedicated to paying the grant to the right person. Beneficiaries can access the portal via the SASSA Services Portal or visit the nearest SASSA office.

Fraud should be reported to the SASSA fraud hotline: 0800 60 10 11  or Grantenquiries@sassa.gov.za
