The School Management and Rectron Members unveil the lab

Learners at Ratshepo High School in Temba, Hammanskraal, are set to benefit from improved digital literacy skills following the launch of two fully equipped computer laboratories last Thursday. The laboratories were unveiled by technology firm Rectron as part of its Progressive Educational Upliftment (P.E.U) corporate social investment programme.

The initiative aims to strengthen learners’ skills in robotics, coding and Computer Applications Technology (CAT), preparing them for the digital future.

The school, which serves more than 1,431 learners, welcomed the development as a significant step toward expanding access to quality digital education.

Rectron described the launch as another milestone in its commitment to advancing education through technology.

Through its P.E.U programme, the company continues to invest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, digital access and future-ready learning to ensure learners have the tools they need to succeed.

Each laboratory is equipped to accommodate large groups of learners and includes teacher workstations. The system allows learner computers to connect directly to the teacher’s computer, enabling better monitoring, participation and classroom management.

The laboratories will be used by more than 132 learners: Grade 8 learners focusing on robotics and coding, and Grade 10 learners using the facilities for Computer Applications Technology under the CAPS curriculum.

School management indicated that teachers have received training to effectively use integrated STEM tools in the classroom. The new facilities are expected to improve performance in mathematics and technology-related subjects.

The project will continue to be supported to ensure long-term sustainability.

Learners expressed excitement about the new development, saying the laboratories will help them build skills needed for careers in technology, law enforcement and other fields in the digital economy.

The launch marks an important step in improving access to technology-driven education in the Temba community.
