A stream in Majaneng pose danger to the community

The community of Majaneng in Hammanskraal who lives close to the stream are concerned that it could serve as a crime scene in the near future. The stream serves as a channel that takes water to Appies River when Majaneng Dam is overflowing.

Mr Makhala Mthimkhulu, who has been living in Majaneng for 20 years said he was concerned with shrubs that are not been maintained by their municipality. This could end up being a crime scene as a dead body could be dumped here.

“I am not happy with this big shrubs in this stream. People live just a stone throw away from this place and it is not safe for them. Rape could be practised here as this place is clustered with shrubs,””. Said Mr Mthimkhulu.” Said Mr Mthimkhulu.

The municipality has neglected this stream which is a danger to the community

Residents said they are pleading with their municipality to clean the place as it is risky for them. This place is busy as people pass by it when they get dropped off at the bus stop and they could be easily be targets to criminals.

Another residents, Ms Maria Khalo, who lives just a stone throw away from the place said she was concerned as the place was not safe for people in the area.

“This place needs to be cleaned as criminals hide their stolen items here. Nyaope boys use the bridge near it to hide their stolen things. If it gets cleaned, it will be possible to see any movement,” Said Ms Khalo.

Residents pleaded with their local municipality to clean the place and maintain it. They also said if given equipment, they can clean the place on their own.
