Tshwane Mayor pledges R1m towards student fund raising campaigns

Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa joined the University of Pretoria Student Representatives (SRC) today during the launch of the fundraising campaign dubbed the R10 Million Game- established to cater for the needy students who study at University of Pretoria (UP). Mayor Ramokgopa congratulated UP SRC for launching their‪#‎UPSRC_R10mGame and pledged R250 000 towards the fund. “We will equally support University of South Africa (UNISA) and Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) students with the same amounts.
“In total our pledge towards needy students in Tshwane institutes of higher learning is R1million,” he said.
City Spokesperson, Mr Blessing Manale, said the City recognizes education as a priority sector that will propel the City’s economic growth and development trajectory and have put a number of mechanisms to assist underprivileged learners reach their full potential. He said these include programmes such as the Informal Traders bursary scheme, the annual matric awards, the provision of free WiFi, general bursaries and student friendly municipal services.
