A 31 year old man was shot dead during an attempt robbery at Herry Gwala Ave R101 road in Hammanskraal at around 12:30 today.
Constable Herman Moremi of Corporate Communications at Temba SAPS, said it is alleged that the vehicle was stationary on the robot when two men attacked the driver who also tried to also take his firearm.
“The driver managed to withdraw his firearm and shot one of them on the upper body before driving off to a safe place and called the police. The other suspect managed to flee,” he said.
The deceased was identified by his family and said he was in prison and was released last month.
A case of murder has been opened for further investigation.
