Gauteng Transport MEC, Mr Jacob Mamabolo handed over water tanks to support hygiene in three Hammanskraal taxi ranks.
The MEC lauded Anglo Gold for providing the water tanks to support and help the most neglected industry, with the aim to fight the COVID-19 Virus.
Mr Mamabolo stressed that the new measures will ensure that the equipment provided on taxi ranks are used effectively.
He also said the new measure will be around the disinfecting of taxis and sanitizing of commuters and drivers.
“The leadership of the taxi industry must demonstrate a sense of responsibility and make sure that the vehicles are always clean to protect themselves as taxi operators, drivers and the commuters.
“Taxi owners must make sure that the taxis are not the transport of the virus into townships.” Mr Mamabolo said.
