The annual ETV charity showdown lives up to expectation

The second edition of the annual ETV charity showdown took place at the Lucas Masterpiece Moripe on Sunday 19th July.

The Charity event is played as a way to raise money for the Lunchbox Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a daily meal for orphaned and vulnerable school children in township and rural areas of South Africa.

The event was spearheaded by its traditional main event of the day which is soccer battle. This year’s soccer challenge featured Tshwane giants, Mamelodi Sundowns, their Tshwane counterpart university of Pretoria fc (Amatuks), Jomo Cosmos and Ajax Cape town.IMG 2110
First match of the day featured two teams from Tshwane Mamelodi Sundowns and Amatuks, a match that saw Sundowns claim the honours by two goals to nil to advance to the finals where they were to face the winning team between Jomo Cosmos and Ajax Cape Town.
The second match was Jomo Cosmos and Ajax of Cape Town, two goals from Ajax forward Bantu Mzwakali were enough to advance the urban Warriors to the final were they faced Favourites Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Final match lived up to the expectations as it was a three nil goal thriller, Mamelodi Sundowns found the back of the net in the first half after Cuthbert Malajila got a free header from Lebohang Mokoena’s corner kick. Just on the brink of half time Ajax got a goal courtesy on an own goal by defender Mario Booysens from a franklin Cale free kick to level the score. The second half however showed the might of Mamelodi sundown as the Tshwane boys scored freely in the second half, 2 goals from Cuthbert Malajila and Anthony Laffor Respectively sealed the game and Sundowns went to lift the cup.
The event hosted in partnership with the Tshwane municipality, the executive mayor of Tshwane, Cllr kgosientso Ramokgopa was present at the event. In line with the nelson Mandela advocacy for alleviating poverty, the mayor stated that ‘the event stood for everything that the former president Mandela stood for. The money raised at the event is going to be giving to three schools for feeding students for the whole year.
