The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) will tomorrow, Friday 30 October 2015, march to the union building to hand over a memorandum to defend the honour of President Jacob Zuma in light of a recent painting by artist, Mr Ayanda Mabulu, which shows a naked painting of the President.
“We condemn the denigration of the image of President Zuma by so-called artists. “The country was silent and even failed to condemn the imagery of violence against women,” the League said in a statement.
“Women reaffirm the leadership of President Zuma as the champion of the revolution. The leadership of the movement leading the national democratic revolution is represented by the face of its president, therefore, by virtue of this fact he is the human face of our revolution.
“The ANCWL, therefore, regards any attack on the president as an attack on the revolution and the organisation – the ANC.” The theme of the march is “Women defending the national democratic revolution [NDR]”.
“As we continue with the responsibility bestowed upon us to defend the NDR, as the leaders of one of its primary motive forces – the ANCWL – we will embark on a protest to defend the movement in general and the president of the ANC in particular as to ensure that the gains of the revolution amongst others are protected,” the league said.
The march will start at Lilian Ngoyi Square from 7:00 and begin the procession at 10:00 to the Union building. Around 400 busses are expected to transport people to the gathering point.
The streets which will be affected are Lilian Ngoyi, Sisulu, Helen Joseph, Stanza Bopape and Leyds.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes such as Francis Baard, Nana Sita and Jeff Masemola.
Tshwane Metro Police officers jointly with the South African Police Service will be monitoring the streets affected.
