Tshwane north college Temba campus remain shut following the national shutdown of Tvet colleges last week. Students have engaged in a silent protest since last week regarding several issues that affects their academics, among those issues there is infrastructure, pending of results, NSFAS, certificates of both students and former students as well as alleged corruption.
When Moretele times spoke to Kagiso Mapanga, Temba Branch chairperson of South African national student commander (Sasco) he said “The campus will remain shut down until our needs are met and no academics will continue, we will ensure that”.
Students who are doing trimester courses are likely to be affected by the protest. Reneilwe Makitla, a student said students will find difficulties in completing their trimester modules because so far, students are left with eight weeks to finish their trimester.
Mr Jacob Morapedi of Sasco , said his organisation will ensure that registration dates are extended and information will be given to students in due time.
It is alleged that students who paid a non-refundable registration fee of R200 last year towards the end of the year for 2017 enrollment were told that there is no space and the a new list has been made.
At the time of going to press, management of the college was not available for comment.
