Mrs Selinah Mokone changed her life through sewing

She has two children that she raised as a single mother and her kids never go to bed on an empty stomach. She has achieved this through her humble beginnings with her sewing business that made it possible for her to see her children through school.

This is 53 year old, Ms Selinah Mokone, from Hammanskraal, who started her sewing venture in 1990.

She worked as a domestic worker before and used some of her wages to pay for her sewing lesson because she realised this could be her breakaway to help her make her own income and be able to take care of her two children.

Since then, she has been working on the corner at Temba City Complex for the past 27 years.

“I have made a fortune out of sewing. I was living in a two roomed shack that had no windows and I have managed to build myself a nine room house. I have also bought a car for myself.”

Ms Mokone encourages single mothers who do not have jobs not to let their circumstances to pull them down and that they should stand on their feet to make a living with their hands.
