The ever growing in popularity Goods South African township market was held on Saturday 05 August at Sebothoma Hall in Temba Unit D to promote young women entrepreneurs from Hammanskraal and surrounding areas.

Mr Beans Kekana the owner and founder of Goods SA Township markets said he started organizing the market because he saw a need to come up with a model to promote local businesses ranging from entertainers, street vendors, fashion designers and Dj’s in the community of Hammanskraal.
“At the market, different businesses come under one umbrella and in this way money rotates within themselves,” said Mr Kekana.
He said he started the market back in 2012 after he realized that the community of Temba travels to Pretoria to spend their money instead of supporting local business.
“We want to do away with the mentality so that community members can spend their money on local businesses.

“This month we focused on businesswoman to support and encourage them in their businesses so that they can fully understand the business concepts,” he said.
He said that soon the organisation would be launching an online store to take the market online.
“We are further looking to bring in a professional event company that can compete at an international level so we may boost local economy and help us spread into the whole country as well.” Said Mr Kekana.
On the day, different stalls with different products were available for people to buy. The market further gave an opportunity to family and friends to enjoy live performances from local artists.

The event was successful in centralizing local businesses and artists to give them an opportunity to display their business skills in the entrepreneurship world.
Female Dj’s were given a platform to highlight their skills by entertaining the audience.
Ms Tebogo Ndlovu of Sma Pop up Spa which is a Spa treatment for kids offering body massage, nail polishing and foot massage, said the event was important for them especially because it took place during Women’s Month because it proves that women can do things on their own.
“The mobile spa we have brought here today will empower and teach young girls self-love so that they may grow knowing that a woman should always look good all the time and respect herself,” Said Ms Ndlovu.

She further explained that she received an overwhelming support from parents who came with their kids, as what she was doing was rare in the townships.
Mr Kekana thanked the people of Hammanskraal who came out in numbers to support the event since its inception in 2012.
