The Community of Leboneng in Hammanskraal is concerned about the risk put to their health by a sewage pipe that is always burst.

The local Councillor, Mr Sello Mphaga, refuted community statements that they reported the problem to the municipality, stating that had he known, he could have dispersed the maintenance team to attend to the problem.

“The area has a continuous challenge with this drainage as it continues to burst,” he said.

Sewage water flowing through the street and into yards has been going on for months. The maintenance team left without being able to fix the pipes yesterday

After he was contacted by Moretele Times, Mr Mphaga dispatched the maintenance team who unfortunately could not resolved the problem as the tools they brought were broken by the stones they found in the pipes.

On Monday, the maintenance team left the area and promised to return with the appropriate tools to solve the problem.

Seven households are affected by the burst sewage pies that has overflowed in their yards and flashes back in their toilets and washing basins.

Leboneng senior citizen, Ms S Lekalakala, said the drainage system has been giving problems for months now and when the community reports the matter to the municipality, the maintenance team only resolves the matter temporarily.

“As we speak I do not have a toilet to relieve myself or water to wash because the water is now rising from the toilet pot and the bathtubs,” Said Mrs Lekalakala.

Another resident who did not want to be named said it is now going for three days that they cannot use their toilets and bathtubs and the municipality has done anything about it.
