Mafikeng, North West – The African National Congress (ANC) Caucus in the North West Provincial Legislature has unveiled four significant appointments to enhance regional governance and accountability. This announcement comes from Mr Mokone Collen Maine’s election as Deputy Speaker during a special legislature session held at the Matlosana City Council Chambers.

Ms Motlalepula Rosho, the ANC Chief Whip, congratulated Mr Maine, highlighting his extensive experience as a former member of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and his previous role as a Whip for North West permanent delegates. Mr Maine’s appointment follows the resignation of Mr Tshepo Khoza, the former Deputy Speaker and ANC member of the provincial legislature.

Mr Maine recently vacated his position as MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation on 1 October 2024, paving the way for Premier Lazarus Mokgosi to appoint Ms Galebekwe Virginia Tlhapi to the portfolio he previously held.

In addition to Mr Maine’s appointment, the ANC Caucus has welcomed Mr Nathan Oliphant, who was sworn in as a new member of the North West Provincial Legislature on Tuesday to fill the vacancy left by Mr Khoza’s resignation from the ANC provincial candidates list.

Mr Khoza Pelele, ANC Caucus Spokesperson, expressed confidence in these appointments, stating that they will help reposition the province to further the goals of the National Democratic Revolution (NDR). He emphasized that the ANC now has the opportunity to leverage state power to drive progress in the province.

The Caucus also announced the appointment of Ms Karabo Magagane as the new Deputy Chief Whip, replacing Tlhapi. Magagane has demonstrated her commitment and effectiveness in various roles within both the legislature and the ANC.

Ms Rosho reaffirmed the Caucus’s dedication to supporting provincial government efforts, emphasizing the need for accelerated service delivery to improve the lives of residents beyond 30 years of freedom and democracy.

“We will ensure that the people of North West come first by enhancing service delivery and strengthening oversight and accountability. We will leave no stone unturned in responding to the electorate’s voice. Let’s Do More, Together!” she stated.

Mr Pelele stated that the ANC Caucus believes the North West is on a positive trajectory and is committed to holding all its members accountable in pursuing a Manifesto focused on improving the quality of life for all residents. He emphasized that the Caucus calls on the people of the province and stakeholders to support Premier Mokgosi’s leadership and urged all deployees to serve with humility, agility, and precision.
