Hygiene Education at Seroto Matsehla Primary School: Soap and Hand Dispensers Provided

“Make sure to wash your palms, the back of your hands, and under your nails thoroughly with soap.”

On the morning of April 26, a hygiene education session was in full swing at the auditorium of Seroto Matsehla Primary School in Hammanskraal. This initiative was led by the International WeLoveU Foundation Chairperson, Zahng Gil-jah, aiming to help students establish proper hygiene habits. A WeLoveU representative stated, “We hope that a healthy living environment begins at school and contributes to the overall health of the local community. We will continue to participate in building a safer future.”

Following the session, WeLoveU members installed hand soap dispensers in the school’s toilets and donated enough hand soap for the entire student body of approximately 430 students to use over the next four months. Both students and staff expressed their gratitude, noting their ability to wash their hands properly daily and prevent the spread of viruses.

Miss Grace Nkwane, the Vice Principal, expressed her appreciation: “I would like to send my sincere gratitude to Zahng Gil-Jah. We really appreciate the donation you made for us this morning; at our school, we love you.” Mrs. Marongwa, a teacher and Foundation Phase Head of Department, added, “Since we are a remote school from Majaneng, this will help us a lot. Thank you, Zahng Gil-Jah; we are grateful.” Student Bokang Nkomane remarked, “I’m so thankful to International WeLoveU for teaching us how to wash our hands so we don’t get sick.”

This initiative is part of WeLoveU’s “2025 Hygiene Education and Hygiene Kit Support” program, commemorating World Health Day (April 7) and World Hand Hygiene Day (May 5). The organization visits local schools to educate students on hygiene concepts, the importance of handwashing, and proper techniques. Hygiene kits are also distributed to empower students to protect their health. Previously, on April 21, a similar session was held at Matimu Secondary School in Mopani, Limpopo Province, where over 380 hygiene kits containing toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap were provided to promote good hygiene and prevent infectious diseases. This program is being conducted in more than 20 countries, including South Africa, Kenya, Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama, and Cambodia.

The foundation of WeLoveU’s activities lies in the spirit of “a mother’s love,” viewing the 8 billion people of the world as one global family. As an associated NGO of the UN Department of Global Communications (UN DGC), WeLoveU has conducted over 4,900 welfare projects over the past 25 years in areas such as emergency relief, poverty and hunger alleviation, healthcare, education, environmental protection, water and sanitation, community welfare, and international partnerships. For these efforts, it has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (USA), the Order of Merit (Republic of Korea), the Royal Order of Monisaraphon (Cambodia), and the National Assembly Medal (Ecuador).

WeLoveU has also engaged in various humanitarian activities within South Africa. Blood donation campaigns, such as the “Worldwide Blood Drive,” were conducted in collaboration with the South African National Blood Service and local shopping centers, contributing to a stable blood supply and raising public awareness about the importance of donating blood.

During crises such as COVID-19, fires, and floods, the organization quickly assessed the damage and provided emergency relief supplies like daily necessities and food to support swift recovery. Last year, in cooperation with the Department of Social Development, WeLoveU delivered food and hygiene items to 400 households affected by tornadoes and wildfires in KwaZulu-Natal.

WeLoveU’s initiatives also contribute to cleaner and more pleasant environments. The “Clean WORLD Movement,” a global environmental welfare campaign, was conducted at sites such as the Walkerspruit stream in Tshwane, Newton Park in Nelson Mandela Bay, and Durban Harbour in eThekwini, KwaZulu-Natal.
