The search for 16-year-old Happy Gadifele Shirilela Mhlongo, who was reported missing from an initiation school in Eersterus, Temba, has ended in tragedy after his body was found in the Soutpan bushes.
According to Sergeant Herman Moremi, Corporate Communications Officer at Temba SAPS, the teenager was reported missing at Temba SAPS on 6 July 2026 after he allegedly disappeared while collecting wood in the bush with other boys.
“The matter was referred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigations,” said Sergeant Moremi.
Police later arrested the boy’s grandfather, Solomon Raphethane, after investigations allegedly established that he was the last person seen with the teenager.
“The grandfather appeared in the Temba Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 3 August 2026, facing a charge of kidnapping and was released for further investigation,” Sergeant Moremi said.
In the latest development, the missing boy was reportedly found dead in the Soutpan bushes with burn wounds. The grandfather is said to have alerted police after allegedly being informed by a cattle handler who had seen the body.
Police investigations are continuing.
