On Tuesday, the 18th July 2017, Temba Women’s Manyano Society came together to celebrate Mandela Day.
Just like the rest of the country, the women dedicated 67 minutes of their time in memory of the late Nelson Mandela.
Another reason for coming together was to do something good, to uplift the mood and to make a difference by bringing joy to a particular individual on that day.
They recognized the hard work that Nelson Mandela dedicated for 67 years of his life to make South Africa a free and better country for everyone to live in.
Their individual of interest was an easy choice, and it was none other than Mrs Thusi, a retired Women’s Manyano president who dedicated her service to the Methodist Church of Southern Africa, especially the Temba branch.
She served the Temba branch for over a decade, still provides a dedicated service after her retirement and is still active in good standing. As a retired president and a disabled leader of the church she, contributed so much to the growth and knowledge of the organization.
The Temba Women’s Manyano acknowledged the fact that she is at a time in her life where she is lonely, sickly and without assistance and it was important for them to pay her a visit as she’s in dire need of care and company.
The elderly women’s club left Temba and headed to Kanana where she resides. They left at their usual time, 10am, that assembles them every Thursday at the Temba Methodist Church.
They prepared a pot of soup to ease her into the winter weather and their mission was to spend a day of prayer and laughter with her. Getting to the house, they were not happy with the conditions of how the yard looked.
Dressed in their uniform, they had no choice but to pick up shovels and rakes and cleaned the yard. It did not matter to them that their tailored skirts were filled with dust, it was worthwhile to clean for the woman who carried them for so many years and kept their Temba branch as one of the best in the Makapanstad Circuit.
When they were done with the cleaning, they continued their conversations, prayers and laughter with her, enjoying the warm soup.
