The Amandebele ba Moletlane Traditional Authority threaten to continue with the shutdown movement which was stopped due to national elections.
Hammanskraal African National Congress Youth League Tshwane REC Member,
Mr Kotita Aphane, said the Hammanskraal ANCYL is not aware of any shutdown planned regarding the water crisis, “though we will always be side by side with the community confronting any struggles they might face, only if it’s a genuine course,” Mr Aphane said.
The threat of the shutdown is with regards to the complaints made by the residents about poor quality of water from their running taps and that the water still has a strange colour and a bad smell.
This is after Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Mr Steven Makgalapa, visited Temba in March to inspect the Water Treatment Plant and confirmed the water to be safe for human consumption.
“We cannot drink, bath, or wash clothes with the water because it is contaminated and has a terrible smell.
‘We are busy drafting a memorandum to be submitted to the Municipal and after submitting it, the municipality will be given reasonable days to respond to their grievances and failure to respond will results into a shutdown.” said Mr John Madise, Secretary of Amandebele ba Moletlane.
He alleged that the reason Hammanskraal water cannot be clean is because all the sewage from Pretoria spills waste into the river that supplies water to Hammanskraal.
“We don’t understand why we should depend on water trucks and why can’t the municipality join the Hammanskraal water pipe with the Soshanguve water line to provide us with clean water,” Mr Madise said.
