More than 400 title deeds were issued to beneficiaries in New Eersterust, Hammanskraal, on Saturday 14 March 2020 by the City of Tshwane.
The City’s Group Head for Human Settlements Department, Ms Nontobeko Memela, said the title deeds will empower beneficiaries and their families with the dignity of a place to call home as they will be in possession of an official and legal document that proves that they are the rightful owners of their properties.
She said the City was ready to issue out more than a 1 000 title deeds to the beneficiaries, but unfortunately, not all of them could make it on Saturday.
“We will however continue to issue them from our Temba Municipal Offices during working hours from Monday to Friday. We urge all those who were invited to collect their title deeds on Saturday, but for some reason could not collect, to visit our Temba offices for collection,” said Ms Memela.
Lindela L Mashigo Director Media Relations at the City of Tshwane said the beneficiaries, who are residents of Extensions 1, 2 and 3, are part of the more than 55 000 population which constitutes over 7 000 households of New Eersterust Proper and New Eersterust Extensions 1 to 7.
One of the beneficiaries, 79-year old Lucia Tshwaane of New Eersterust Extension 1, was close to tears when she was handed her title deed.
She said she can finally call the home she grew up in her own, more than 30 years after her parents passed on.
“I am so happy to gain my dignity back,” she said.
Another recipient, 57-year-old Titus Mahlangu, who is now the proud owner of house number 2190 Extension 1 said that he has been living in the house for 28 years without a document that proves that he owns the property.
“I’m so happy, my three kids will now have a place that they can with confidence call home. I want to encourage those who are still awaiting theirs to be patient. It was a long wait but we finally got them,” he said.
Last year, the City handed over more than 500 title deeds to beneficiaries in the same area. Amongst the beneficiaries, there were four senior citizens who were more than 90 years of age, with the oldest being a 111-year old granny.
