Nkgono Julia Mosai (68) has been a resident of Hammanskral, Chris Hani block G since the dawn of democracy in 1994 and still stays in a small shack that has no windows and proper door.
Ms Mosai said she feels unsafe during the night as her safety is not guaranteed.
Nkgono told Moretele Times that after all this years she still does not have running water, proper house and electricity.
She has been promised a government house since 1994 and 23 years later she still does not have a place to call home.
“I came here in 1994 after I left my parent’s house to look for my own place to live. I feel not safe when sleeping in this shack. Since 1994 we have had four councilors in this area that came in and left.
“They all gave me their word that they were going to build me a house but they have all since left office without even returning to me.” She said.
She said she has lost hope in the government as they are good at nothing but only promises.
“This government has dehumanized me. I feel like a pig living in these conditions, all I am asking for is a house and that would make me feel over the moon if I can have a proper roof over my head.” She said.
Nkgono pleaded with the government to build her a house that she can call home as she does not feel proud to call the shack she is living in a home.
