Seven suspects will appear in the Moretele magistrate court in due cause facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and bribery.
Sergeant Herman Moremi of corporate communication SAPS Temba, said all men aged 31, 33, 36, 42 and 47 were arrested on the spot for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Five of them were from Zimbabwe and two South Africans.
He said Temba SAPS, police were on patrols today (09-08-2020) morning at around 10:00 when they received a tip off about suspicious men at Maubane in Temba North of Pretoria and they swiftly responded to the call.
They found seven men in a certain house who were suspected to be Rhino pouchers, and when interrogate, police realized that they might not be South Africans, and they started searching the house where they found a rifle and ammunition.
When the police were busy with suspects at the police station, another 33 year old man came and allegedly tried to bribe the police with eight thousand rand(R 8000.00), allegedly to release his friends and was also arrested for bribery.
The station commander Brigadier Martha Mokobori, applauded the members who responded to the call and made the arrest and said this is how the police in Temba should work together with the community to fight crime. In this way, the police will gain trust and respect from community members.
