This Mandela Day, the roads of Swartboom in the North West province led to something extraordinary. At J. Bodibe Early Learning Centre (ELC), laughter, paint, and purpose filled the air as the Mapesa Foundation arrived with one goal: to give back, during Mandela Day on July 18th.
Armed with buckets of donated paint generously sponsored by Build It, brushes, tools, and sandwiches, the Mapesa Foundation team was joined by volunteers and community members to transform the heart of this school. The once-fading building walls were refreshed with bright, cheerful colors. The long, rusty, and stiff school gate was fixed and repainted with care. Creaking doors were repaired, and the yard was cleared of litter, restored into a space where children can now play safely and freely.
However, the initiative aimed to achieve more than just physical repairs. It was a demonstration of love, service, and community spirit. These small gestures of kindness served as reminders to the children that they matter, and that their learning environment is important too.
The Mapesa Foundation firmly believes in dignity through action. On this Mandela Day, the Foundation’s efforts told a story of hope and unity, showcasing hands joined together for a cause greater than selflessness. The Foundation said it honored Madiba not just in words but in action—actions that left lasting color on the walls and warm joy in the hearts of Swartboom’s future leaders.
As the sun set on a day filled with creativity and community, Mandela’s spirit was palpable, reminding everyone of the power of kindness and the impact of giving back.
